TOEFL Preparation

TFL-101 $235

TOEFL-101 features up-to-date, realistic practice tests and cooperative learning strategies designed to familiarize students with the test format and develop test taking strategies to improve their scores. The course is open to all; although, a strong academic English background is recommended for those who wish to test in the near future. The curriculum of this course is based on the TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test).


HiSET Preparation
GED-104A $235

Are you ready for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET)? (Formerly GED)
To prepare for the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET), students will take practice tests and develop study plans. Beginning with diagnostic testing, instruction focuses on writing, reading, math, science and social studies. Students will use textbooks/workbooks and calculators, which are not included in the cost of the course. There is also a separate fee for testing.


SHRM® Learning System Certification Prep Program for SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP

TEAS Test Preparation

The ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is required for entrance into many Nursing and Allied Health Programs nationally, including Bunker Hill Community College. The TEAS preparation class at BHCC is comprised of intensive classes in math and science with the reading and grammar built into the classes. These classes are outlined below and are supplemental to individual studying. Students are required to purchase the TEAS preparation book with the online component, which can be found at the BHCC bookstore. This class in itself may not be enough to pass and does not guarantee students a passing score or acceptance into Bunker Hill Community College programs.

TEAS PREP Science and Grammar
TSG-101 $150 (book cost is separate)

This course focuses on the science component of the ATI TEAS exam. Life Science, Human Body Science, Chemical and Physical Science, and General Science will be covered. This course will also review English and Language use.

The course covers a general review of the anatomy and physiology of human body systems. Life and Physical Science includes topics such as the macromolecules in a biological system, chromosomes, genes, DNA, Mendel’s laws of heredity, atomic structures, properties of substances, states of matter, and chemical reactions. The course also includes a review of Scientific Reasoning, including scientific measurements, laboratory tools, scientific explanations using logic and evidence, and the scientific investigation process. This course will also review standard English spelling, punctuation, grammar, formal and informal language, the writing process, sentence structures, and the use of context clues to determine word meanings. Students will practice developing well-organized paragraphs.

TEAS PREP Math and Reading
TMR-101 $150 (book cost is separate)

This course focuses on the math and reading content of the ATI TEAS exam. This class will review ordering numbers, performing arithmetic operations with rational numbers, converting between decimals, fractions and percentages, and solving equations with variables. Students will also review how to solve real world applications using the skills listed above. 

Students will read and interpret graphs, charts and tables, convert within and between metric and English measurement systems, solve geometric quantities, and explain relationships between two variables. As part of the course, students will be exposed to various test taking strategies such as eliminating unreasonable answers and verifying that calculated answers are reasonable.

For the reading portion of this course, students will review techniques for summarizing, drawing conclusions, identifying the topic, main idea and supporting details. Students should be able to follow directions given, and sequence events from a printed text. Students should also be able to identify information from a graphic representation or a printed communication.

TRG-101, “TEAS Reading and Grammar”

This prep course specially focuses on Reading, English and Language Usage of the Assessment Testing Institute ® (ATI) TEAS ® exam. Key ideas, details, craft and structure, and integration of knowledge and ideas will be covered in the reading portion of the course. Also covered will be conventions of standard English, knowledge of language and vocabulary acquisition.
