All International students are able to pursue an internship while studying at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC). All international students are eligible to apply for an academic or career internship after successfully completing two (2) full-time semesters at BHCC. All International students interested in a paid or unpaid internship during the fall or spring semester must obtain academic credit and register your internship with BHCC at least 3 weeks before the start of your internship in order to receive an I-20.
Once a student goes through a successful interview process, receives an offer letter from the employer on company letterhead, the Coordinator of Internship Programs then writes a letter of confirmation that the student is participating in an internship and therefore eligible for CPT (Curricular Practical Training).
With these two letters, the international student may then go to the International Center and apply for “CPT” or Curricular Practical Training. The CPT covers one semester of work authorization. The CPT may be extended for one additional semester for an academic internship upon offer by the employer.
A student may elect to apply for and use pre-completion OPT (Optional Practical Training) for a career internship, although this option is not recommended. For additional information about this option, students must go to the International Center to apply at least 90 days before the start of your internship.
