Transfer 101 - Transferring to Competitive Colleges

Each year, BHCC students are accepted to some of the most competitive colleges in the nation. But to get accepted, students need to take steps to challenge themselves and strategically plan. Students who maintain high academic achievement are encouraged to apply to selective institutions. This workshop will focus on the first two stages of transferring - Planning and Exploring - with emphasis on increasing your competitiveness for admissions. Topics will include searching for colleges, scholarships, co-curricular involvement, networking, and college transfer essays.

The purpose of this group is to acquire and practice standardized American English, while at the same time learning how to navigate life at the College as an English Language Learner and/or immigrant. We will talk about the best language learning methods, along with strategies for dealing with coursework, professors, classmates, registration, transfer and career planning, financial issues, and much more. We discuss many of the challenges of life at the College, as well the ways to take advantage of the many opportunities that exist at Bunker Hill as well. The group is open to all students. Information Session: Vassar College's Exploring Transfer Program

Exploring Transfer is an intensive summer program held at Vassar College for high-achieving, community college students. Community college students who have attended the Exploring Transfer program have successfully transferred to a wide range of four-year institutions. Students in the program are typically among the first generation in their family to attend college and are highly motivated academically, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Through a five-week residential program and immersion in the liberal arts, Exploring Transfer enables community college students to imagine a broader range of academic opportunities than might otherwise have been possible. Many BHCC students have attended this fully-funded program over the years and we encourage you to learn more!
