Gloria Steinem, Women's Rights Activist, Speaks on Tuesday, February 24th at Bunker Hill Community College

Gloria Steinem, renowned feminist, writer and lecturer will speak at Bunker Hill Community College on Tuesday, February 24th. Steinem will be this year’s second speaker in the College’s “Compelling Conversations” speaker series, which is free and open to the public.
Her lecture will take place at 1:00 p.m. in the A 300 Auditorium, and is followed by a book signing and reception. Steinem will be signing two of her bestsellers Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem and Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions as well as her most recent book, titled Doing Sixty and Seventy.
Gloria Steinem has played a major role in the modern women’s movement. Well known as the co-founder of Ms. magazine, Steinem helped establish the Women’s Action Alliance, the National Women’s Political Caucus, and Choice USA. She is the founding president of the Ms. Foundation for Women, and the co-founder of the Women’s Media Center. She has received numerous journalism awards, including the Lifetime Achievement in Journalism Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Society of Writers Award from the United Nations, and the University of Missouri School of Journalism Award for Distinguished Service in Journalism. She has also received the National Gay Rights Advocates Award and the Liberty Award of the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. Parenting magazine selected her for its Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995 for her work in promoting girls’ self-esteem, and Biography magazine listed her as one of the 25 most influential women in America.
BHCC’s “Compelling Conversations” speaker series has brought both national and international intellectual celebrities to its campus. Past speakers have included journalist and political commentator Juan Williams, best-selling author Bob Woodward, and world renowned peace activist Jehan Sadat.
