Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) registered nursing alumna Afi Alfred was honored as a YMCA Achiever for her contributions to her community at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) 30th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.
The prestigious award honors those who are both deeply dedicated to their professional careers while being actively engaged in the community. As the Clinical Operations Manager at the Bowdoin Street Health Center, Alfred oversees a team of nurses, medical assistants, physical therapists and interpreters. She also represents the center on BIDMC’s Diversity and Inclusion workgroup.
A lifelong resident of Dorchester, Alfred founded the Butterfly Soul Initiative to provide mentorship and guidance opportunities to minorities entering the field of nursing.
She is currently pursuing her Masters of Bioethics at Harvard Medical School and is a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association. As a YMCA Achiever, Alfred will commit to at least 40 hours of voluntary serving in her community in the coming year.
