President Eddinger’s Take on JOBS Act

President Eddinger shared her perspective in an Inside Higher Ed article, “Brewing Battle Over Pell Grants”. In Washington D.C. there is bipartisan support for expanding Federal Pell Grants to include short-term job training. Proponents of the legislation see the bill as a way for adults to find better jobs in high-demand industries. However, there are legislators who express concern that short-term jobs may not offer livable wages and offer little connection to college degree pathways.

BHCC’s Adult Education Program Celebrates Steps toward the American Dream

The Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) Adult Education and Transitions Program celebrated the achievement of students on June 22, 2019, at the Homewood Suites in Chelsea, MA.The students who were recognized completed their education courses in a consortium where they passed the HiSET®, completed adult basic education courses or completed their college courses for Transitions to College.

BHCC’s Boston Welcome Back Center Receives Ubuntu Award From Boston Center for Refugee Health & Human Rights at Boston Medical Center

Boston Center for Refugee Health & Human Rights at Boston Medical Center (BCRHHR) held its annual Client Gala on July 10th, 2019. Nearly 170 clients and supporters of the Center gathered at the 14th floor of Boston University’s Hiebert Lounge to honor the strength and resilience of refugees from around the world. Bunker Hill Community College’s (BHCC) Boston Welcome Back Center received BCRHHR’s Ubuntu Award. Each year, BCRHHR presents the Ubuntu Award to an organization that embodies the spirit of the Zulu word, explained by Archbishop Desmond Tutu as meaning “the essence of being human.”
