Streamlined Success: Bunker Hill Community College to UMass Lowell Dual Admissions Agreement for Effortless Transfer
Wednesday, November 29, 2023
On November 27, 2023, at the University Crossing building on the UMass Lowell campus, the Dual Admissions agreement signing between Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) and UMass Lowell became official with the signatures of BHCC President Pam Eddinger and UMass Lowell Chancellor Julie Chen. Staff members from both institutions, including BHCC Provost James Canniff and UMass Lowell Provost Joseph Hartman, commemorated this significant occasion.
"Aligned in values, Bunker Hill and UMass Lowell have crafted an agreement that seamlessly paves the way for students, ensuring an effortless journey toward a four-year degree," said BHCC President Eddinger.
During the event, Wonder Ahiatsi, a senior economics major at UMass Lowell and a transfer student from BHCC, shared his experience and expressed gratitude to both institutions. Ahiatsi, a native of Ghana, obtained an associate degree from BHCC before transferring to UMass Lowell. "My experience at UMass Lowell has been rewarding," said Ahiatsi. "When students contemplate transferring, especially immigrants, they need to find a support system within their university. If you have a system, like both of these schools, that is supportive, it's an incredible experience."
UMass Lowell is one of the top public 4-year institution transfer schools at BHCC furthering students’ education in many programs such as business, computer science, and engineering.
"We are committed to student success. We're committed to attracting the right students for whom a UMass Lowell education can do the most good," stated UMass Lowell Chancellor Chen. "With this agreement, we can create a seamless pathway for Bunker Hill students to continue their education."
As part of the admissions process at BHCC, students can opt-in to the UMass Lowell joint agreement and will simultaneously be admitted to UMass Lowell upon graduation from BHCC. Specific requirements exist, and not all programs offer automatic admission, with some, like nursing, requiring additional criteria.
