BHCC Receives 2023 Red Hat Community & Social Responsibility in Education Impact Award

Recognizing excellence and access in training partnership with global IT firm
Making higher education accessible to all is at the core of Bunker Hill Community College’s mission, both in the College’s degree programs and in its Workforce Development offerings. This fall, Red Hat, the global information technology firm that specializes in open technologies for enterprise, recognized the College’s commitment with the Community & Social Responsibility in Education Impact Award at the company’s Workforce Development and Red Hat Academy Conference.
“[Bunker Hill Community College] has expanded the opportunities for their students in recent years to include not just Linux curriculum but also Ansible curriculum as well,” the company said in its award citation. “Additionally, [BHCC] launched the first Red Hat Workforce Development program in Massachusetts using a state funded workforce grant to offset the costs for their students. Their innovative spirit and devotion to their students is admirable!”
Bunker Hill’s Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) program provides training in Linux administration and prepares them to successfully pass the Red Hat System Administrator Exam. The program is designed for IT professionals but does not require previous Linux experience. It is a one-month synchronous online course, and graduates may go on to work in positions such as Red Hat Certified System Administrator, RHCSA Linux Administrator, IT Specialist-Systems Administrator, or Systems Engineer.
“It’s an honor for BHCC to be recognized by Red Hat for this program,” said Dean of Workforce Development Kristen McKenna. “This is a testament to our instructors, who work tirelessly with our students to ensure their success, of our students hard work and commitment to their educational goals, and to Red Hat for their continued partnership.”
