Niki Nguyen, a Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) alumna and current junior at the University of Massachusetts Boston, has been sworn in as the voting student board member on the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education (BHE) for the 2024-2025 academic year. Majoring in international relations and biochemistry, Nguyen brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to equity and inclusion to her role.

In addition to her responsibilities with the BHE, Nguyen serves as chair of the Student Advisory Council and as a member of the Department of Higher Education’s Open Educational Resources Advisory Council. Nguyen’s dedication to student advocacy is longstanding. As a BHCC student, she served as a two-term Student Trustee on the BHCC Board of Trustees, vice president of human resources for the Student Government Association, and participated in various committees to enhance the student experience.

“Equity is my identity,” Nguyen shared, emphasizing her commitment to fostering inclusion and addressing systemic inequalities. Her leadership is already earning high praise, with BHE Chair Chris Gabrieli noting, “Student voices are crucial to our work, and I look forward to what Ms. Nguyen will contribute during this transformative time for college affordability.”

Nguyen’s appointment underscores the BHE’s commitment to empowering student leaders to shape the future of public higher education in Massachusetts.
