BHCC Celebrasian: Looking Back as We Move Forward

On May 16, 2024, BHCC honored the achievements of our Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) graduating Class of 2024.

The event was a heartfelt celebration of their academic accomplishments, cultural diversity, and resilience. Professor Maria Puente from the Behavioral Science Department emphasized the significant impact of the AANAPISI program, which provides crucial support and resources for AAPI students navigating the challenges of the US education system. The program's efforts to foster community and showcase cultural identities were highlighted, particularly through various events and initiatives at BHCC. These initiatives not only promoted a sense of belonging but also celebrated the diverse backgrounds and achievements of the AAPI student community. 

BHCC President Pam Eddinger, shared her inspiring journey from humble beginnings to a leadership role, underscoring the themes of inclusivity and diversity. Mira Lama, a student from Nepal, also shared her academic journey, emphasizing the importance of following one's passion and the support she received at Bunker Hill Community College. Her story of transitioning to an English major and finding her sense of belonging within the college community illustrated the profound impact of mentorship and cultural connections on student success.

The celebration underscored the unity and shared experiences within the diverse Asian community, celebrating cultural traditions, personal achievements, and the collective pursuit of the American dream.
