BHCC Celebrates I Stand with Immigrants Day of Action

Thursday, November 7, 2024

On October 22, BHCC proudly joined campuses nationwide for the 9th annual I Stand with Immigrants Day of Action. The event at BHCC’s Chelsea campus celebrated the voices and stories of immigrant students, emphasizing the importance of embracing and sharing diverse cultural backgrounds and empowering those who are undocumented.

The Chelsea Campus was vibrant, with activities that highlighted cultural diversity. Attendees enjoyed various musical performances and tasted diverse cuisines, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere. A spirited feature of the event was an inspiring student panel, where students shared how their immigrant experience has impacted their college journey and future dreams. Another highlight was the leadership of the "Voices of Chelsea" Early College students, who created poster projects that spoke about the aspects of their immigrant backgrounds they took pride in and shared heartfelt messages they would like to convey to the future president of the United States, expressing their hopes for more support for immigrant communities.

“The I Stand with Immigrants event on our Chelsea Campus was truly meaningful and honored the voices and experiences of our immigrant students at BHCC,” said Carolina Rojas-Pion, Assistant Director of Dual Enrollment and Early College at Chelsea High School. “Seeing our Early College students actively involved made it even more special and highlighted our shared commitment to building a campus community where everyone feels included, supported, and connected. Together, we didn’t just celebrate the diversity of our experiences but created a space on campus that feels more welcoming and compassionate.”

The I Stand with Immigrants Day of Action/I am an Immigrant initiative powered by the FWD.us Education Fund, Inc., continues leading efforts to empower immigrants and allies to share their stories. Through narrative campaigns, the initiative emphasizes how immigration enriches communities, boosts the economy, and contributes positively to the country.

BHCC’s participation in this event underscored its commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering a united community that supports all its members.
