Thursday, January 9, 2025

BHCC’s Registered Nursing Program held a celebration and pinning ceremony for the Fall 2024 graduates on December 17, 2024.

Dean of Health Sciences Maryann Atkinson acknowledged graduates’ sacrifices and accomplishments and marked their transition into the nursing profession. Dean Atkinson also recognized the support of faculty, staff, family, and friends who supported the graduates: “It does take a team to get us to this point and to get you to where you've met your academic goals."

Senior Director and Professor of the Nurse Education Department Kristen Wenger highlighted the significance of the nursing pin: “The nursing pin is more than just a symbol—it represents compassion, integrity, and lifelong learning." She also urged graduates to embrace the core values of nursing as they transition to professionals.

"You are prepared, you are resilient, and you are stepping into the best profession there is."

Student speaker Isabel Sisson shared heartfelt words about the graduates' diverse backgrounds: "We come from the U.S., Algeria, Brazil, Haiti, Nepal, Vietnam, and Jamaica… Together, we bring unique backgrounds and traditions to this shared journey of becoming nurses."

Emmanuella Dorvil-Novoson reflects on the bittersweet end of their time as students.  "Today, we are at the precipice of our nursing careers, armed with the knowledge and skills our professors graciously bestowed upon us."

In closing, Assistant Dean of Health Sciences Donna Savino acknowledged program director Elizabeth Tobin, BHCC’s first Director of Nurse Education. Under her leadership, the nursing program achieved a remarkable 100% pass rate on licensing exams, reflecting its excellence.
