Pinning Ceremony Marks Passage from Student to Nurse

On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, 38 graduates from the Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) Registered Nursing program received pins to mark their passage from the student role to the practical role.

The group received Associate of Science degrees from BHCC’s Registered Nursing program, which prepares students for careers in nursing. Elizabeth Tobin, Director, Nurse Education Department, congratulated the newly-minted nurses. “You’ve made lifelong friends and colleagues,” she said, “And I look forward to the day when you might be one of my colleagues or the day I may be your patient.”

Students Andre Carrero and Kiara Grinkley addressed their peers and guests at the pinning ceremony. In his speech, Carerro thanked the nursing faculty and clinical instructors. “You’ve helped us build our confidence on the clinical floor, showed us how much we can really accomplish and challenged us to be the best practicing nurses we can be,” he said.

Grinkley went on to recognize the incredible support of the BHCC faculty, her fellow students and the families who supported each graduate along their journey. “I want to thank our families and friends who helped support us, and our professors who were critical in our development of organization, self-discipline and accountability for our own learning,” she said.

Following the ceremony, Tobin invited faculty members Kristen Wenger and Olga Van Dyke to announce a voucher program available to Class of Fall 2018 graduates for Pearson’s NCLEX-RN exam preparation.
