BHCC Joins Massachusetts Community Colleges in Call to Reverse ICE Guidance for International Students

Friday, July 10, 2020

On July 8, 2020, Bunker Hill Community College President, Pam Eddinger, joined the fourteen other community college presidents in Massachusetts in condemning the recent guidance by ICE regarding international students’ participation in the Fall 2020 semester.

Bunker Hill Community College is committed to supporting all 700 of our international students, and the more than 1 million international students currently studying in the United States.

Joint Statement from Massachusetts College College Presidents

We are stunned by the recent guidance by ICE regarding international students, which creates cruel, unfair, and unnecessary confusion about how they should proceed towards the rapidly approaching fall semester. In response to this spring semester’s unexpected and sudden transition to remote learning, exemptions were justifiably expanded for international students so they could continue learning and remain safe amidst a global pandemic – a crisis that is far from over. As Presidents of the 15 Community Colleges across Massachusetts, we value our international students, who are incredibly important to the cultural fabric of our colleges and the Commonwealth. To reverse this policy now, when international students have already finalized their plans for the fall, is heartless. We denounce ICE’s latest guidance and demand that the earlier policy from the spring be maintained.
