BHCC Alum Joe Malaika put on the Excessive Fashion Show on Sunday, December 8, at the Sheraton Hotel in Boston, featuring amputee models to benefit the amputee self-help network. Malaika is the Founder and Fashion Designer of Joe Malaika Associates. The event, hosted by WBZ's Tammy Mutasa, supported the charity 'A Leg Forever Foundation,' featuring an all-amputee model lineup wearing Malaika’s signature Ugandan and East African-inspired clothing line.
Malaika was born in Uganda, grew up in Malden, and graduated from BHCC in 2013. After attending BHCC, Joe attended Bentley University, where he studied fashion marketing. Boston Magazine highlighted Joe’s “bold prints, sequins, and cool asymmetrical cuts [that are] some of the most vibrant (and sassy) ensembles you’ll find in the city. “Mayor Michelle Wu awarded him as the 'Official Fashion Designer' for the City of Boston and was named 'Best Fashion Designer' by Boston Magazine in 2022 and 2024.
