Vaccine and Mask Requirements
Yes, the Council of Presidents has agreed to have a mask requirement in the fall for all students/staff/faculty and all visitors coming to campus.
Yes, there are masks available at entrances, classrooms and service areas, and other high-traffic areas.
Vaccinations are required of the following student groups:
- Culinary Arts students
- Health Science students
- Students enrolled in on-campus science and computer labs
- Students enrolled in on-campus theatre and music classes
- Students participating in in-person internships

Students seeking a medical exemption may request an exemption at COVIDvaxexemption@bhcc.edu. Exemptions and accommodations are not guaranteed. Personal and philosophical reasons for not getting vaccinated are insufficient, and requests of this nature will be denied. Link to exemption form: https://bhcccentral.etrieve.cloud/#/form/121
Since the COVID-19 immunization requirement is being put in place due to the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, including rising cases, BHCC is unable to offer religious exemptions COVID-19 vaccination requirement.
Students exempt from the vaccine requirement for medical reasons will need to submit regular negative COVID-19 test results to participate in class or activities.
Members of the College community are encouraged to be vaccinated whether they are on campus or participating online. Vaccination will be required for faculty and staff who will be on-campus by January 2022.
Yes, the Transition Team is arranging for on-campus testing and will publicize it shortly.
Yes, guidelines are available for faculty for on-campus instruction. Deans can share guidelines with faculty: https://intranet.bhcc.edu/coronavirusresources/collegecommunications/
Safety and Cleaning Protocol
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is not recommending plexiglass to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. However, the College has installed plexiglass barriers to various areas that were requested. Any new requests can be submitted to Facilities to install. The primary defenses against the virus are wearing masks and getting vaccinated. In addition, everyone is required to wear a mask even if they are behind plexiglass.
Cleaning of classrooms will take place between classes.

Campus and Classroom Operations and Access
Currently, the two B-building entrances are the only ones open to enter the Charlestown campus. However, you can exit out of all the doors, including the doors in C, D, and G buildings.
Shuttle service will not be available to either H-building or the Chelsea campus.
Yes, open study and computer space are available in the following locations:
- Chelsea Campus Open Study Space: Room 410 is available for open study space Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Chelsea Campus Computer Space: Room 418, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Charlestown Campus Computer Space: D121-A and D121-B Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Charlestown Campus Open Study Space: Room C202
- Monday, 1 - 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, 12 - 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, 2 - 6 p.m.
- Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Yes, faculty can reserve space in the adjunct room by contacting Tammie Key, Manager of Adjunct Faculty Services, at email@example.com.
Outdoor seating is available on the Main Plaza, G Plaza (ground floor), and G Plaza (2nd floor Brick Plaza near the BHCC topiary).
Yes, the café in the B-lobby is open. The cafeteria is not serving food, but the seating area is open. Vending machines are stocked and available.
Yes, water fillers and fountains are available.
The refrigerator and the microwave are available in Charlestown and Chelsea. Seating currently is not set up for eating. Staff and faculty are encouraged to have meals in their offices or outdoor seating.
Yes, the bookstore is open on campus and also virtually. Online orders are encouraged.
No, BHCC is not accepting requests from external guests to rent or utilize space on its campus this fall. For questions about planning an event on campus, please contact Kevin Wery, Senior Director of College Events and Cultural Planning, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
External guests or groups who want a tour of any BHCC campus should contact the Office of Admissions and Recruitment to schedule a virtual information session. Information can be found on the admissions website at https://www.bhcc.edu/admissions/
Yes, Central Services is open full-time. Hours are currently 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
Yes, the building is open from 9 a.m - 3 p.m. There is no shuttle, no student parking, and no special cleaning. Security will continue to be on-site from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
If space and weather are agreeable, faculty are welcome to conduct in-person classes outside on BHCC campus grounds. Please note, current mask requirements for the City of Boston and Bunker Hill Community College are for indoors only. Faculty conducting outside courses should encourage students to social distance and welcome students to keep their masks on if they choose.
