The Bunker Hill Apprenticeship Operator Hub will serve as a hub for the hospitality, early childhood education and technical sector of the workforce to meet the needs of employers in the Greater Boston and northeastern region of Massachusetts. These three sectors are critical to workforce needs and in demand trained workers. The Center will meet the state’s need to expand, diversify and enhance apprenticeships with a coordinated approach leading to degree and non-degree Industry recognized credentials. This hub will be located on the Charlestown Campus.

What is an Apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship is driven by the industry and provides a pathway for individuals to obtain paid work experience, classroom instruction and an industry credential. Key components of the apprenticeship include employer engagement and involvement, structured on the job training (OJT-2000 hours), related technical instruction (150 hours), progressive wage increase for skills gained and industry credential.

Apprenticeship Programs
Early Childhood Development
Earn a degree in Early Childhood Development
The program is a two-year associate degree program where learners earn their Early Childhood Development degree while working in the field. Apprentices receive at least 2,000 hours per year of paid on the job training and complete college coursework free of charge. Upon completion of the program, apprentices are eligible for full-time employment with increased pay*.
Apprentices completing an A.S. in Early Childhood Development qualify to be Lead Teacher Certified by Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) standards.
*Employment decisions are made by participating employers.
Program Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must be willing to work in the City of Boston
- Must be eligible for work in the US
Previous experience is not required but is preferred.
